Threads of Love
Founded in 2017, Threads of Love began with a simple project—creating Bandanna Blankets for a partnering ministry to reach children across the globe. Inspired by a profound sense of purpose and the teachings of Christ, we soon expanded our vision to include support for both children and adults in our local community, providing comfort and hope through our crafted items.
At Threads of Love, our mission is to use our collective skills in sewing, crocheting, knitting, and looming to support as many ministries as possible within Calvary Chapel Greer. We are committed to creating our handcrafted goods for those in need both locally and internationally.
Over the years,we have reached across borders to Romania, Guatemala, and Ukraine, sending quilts, crocheted hats, scarves, sewn pencil bags, gift bags, and Bible bags. Locally, we focus on supporting the Renewal Center and the homeless community through the Soup Kitchen in Greer by providing quilts, hats, scarves, and innovative sleeping mats crafted from upcycled grocery bags.
In 2020, we enhanced our capability when we bought our first embroidery machine, this allows us to embroider a Bible verse on each quilt. Our group meets every Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, with around 30 dedicated members and an average weekly attendance of 12-18. While many members contribute in person, we also coordinate with those who prefer to participate from home.
Threads of Love is an inclusive community where no prior experience is required. We welcome anyone who wishes to contribute their time and talents to our cause. Our typical gathering involves various activities from cutting cloth and assembling quilts to crafting sleeping mats from recycled materials, ensuring that there are opportunities for everyone to make a meaningful impact.
Renewal Center
The Renewal Center, founded in 1997 by Miracle Hill Ministries, is a long-term, residential, substance-abuse treatment facility for women. This 6-8 month program reaches out to women who have experienced physical and sexual violence and are, therefore, at a higher risk for substance abuse. The program offers freedom from life-dominating addictions through a relationship with Jesus Christ and following spiritual and practical principles taught in the Bible.
Over the past couple of years, Calvary Chapel Greer has sponsored graduations, provided meals to transition homes, and celebrated holiday events with the women. Additionally, over the past 15 years, we have met with the women at the Center one Saturday morning per month. After sharing breakfast, we seek to build up and encourage our sisters in Christ through Bible reading, prayer, and worship in a small group environment.
If you love seeing the power of God working, rescuing, and renewing lives before your eyes, this is a low-commitment, high-reward ministry. Women especially should prayerfully consider participating
For the past year and a half, Calvary Chapel Greer has been partnering with the Active Day Adult Day Care Center. We send a team every 6-8 weeks to host our program designed to engage each individual on a level they can participate in. Our goal is to not just provide a service but rather to foster connection, bring the residents joy, and to cultivate an atmosphere that brings spiritual refreshment and points back to Christ!
Every visit includes a time of worship through song, a short devotional, crafts designed specifically for the residents, and time at the end to interact and get to know each resident.
The Active Day center has created an environment for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities to stay in that is both safe and enjoyable. Calvary Chapel Greer’s partnership with them is designed to maintain this environment while additionally serving them and showing them love in the same way Christ shows love.
Joining us on scheduled Tuesday mornings is a simple, low-commitment way to serve the church and community both. You won’t want to miss it!
Jail Ministry
Every Monday night the Calvary Chapel Greer jail ministry team enters the Greenville County Detention Center to share the Gospel, lead lost men to Christ, and disciple inmates with long-term sentences. Few words can describe this experience. The Holy Spirit is always moving, and He asks us to respond, no matter which side of the bars we are on. The enemy is constantly at work, and as you can imagine, spiritual warfare is always a struggle inside the walls of a jail or prison.
One of our goals is to encourage the men and help them understand that they have done nothing that Jesus didn’t overcome on the cross. We are all in need of a Savior! Many times we laugh, cry, and share struggles. It is so moving to see men’s hearts truly broken, and knowing that their relationships with the Lord grow each day is such a blessing. We hope that once these men leave the jail, they never return. We often say “I hope I never see you again!” Of course, we are speaking of seeing them in jail again. The truth is that we will see many of the inmates in Heaven!
